I liked the main characters, for the most part. The novel follows the adventures of Elizabeth and Nathaniel, as they elope, flee together into the Mohawk lands, and try to stay one step ahead of Nathaniel's arch-rival, Richard Todd. She soon meets and falls in love with Nathaniel Bonner, a white man who was raised by Native Americans. ![]() The book tells the story of a twenty-nine-year-old Englishwoman, Elizabeth Middleton, who travels to a remote area of New York State in 1792, to take up residence there with her father and brother. I've heard many OUTLANDER fans talk about Sara Donati's novel, INTO THE WILDERNESS, and finally decided to read it for myself. ![]()

June’s assignment was to read a novel with a strong father figure because Father’s Day is in June (happy belated Father’s Day to all the dads out there!). ![]() I read March as part of the 2020 Thoughtful Reading Challenge. March is a Pulitzer Prize winning story about CPT March, the father of the March family in Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. ![]() ![]() ![]() While most female protagonists of hers are either sweet, kind, patient, and gentle or angry-appearing but truly thoughtful and witty, this character, Pearl, has sass and spunk at a level you've never seen! She means business when it comes to fighting and is not a dainty flower. For example, she introduces a new type of main female character. Hedlund doesn't avoid these entirely but does explore some new ideas. I kept reading her stories, but I began to grow tired of these plot points. Hedlund didn't, and doesn't, use these in every one of her books, they pop up frequently. They care about each other more than themselves. ![]() They begin to fall in love, but romance interferes with their goals. After reading four or so of Jody Hedlund's books, I began to notice patterns in them. ![]() ![]() Did I hear that people cried while reading this? I sure hope it was tears of laughter (or pain) because y'all need to explain. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her. ![]() But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. ![]() Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.
